Everything you need to know about writing for Women Flourish Magazine — our standards, our voice, and what makes a story truly worth telling.
At Women Flourish, we believe every woman has a story worth telling. Our editorial guidelines exist not to limit your voice — but to help it reach as many women as possible with clarity, integrity, and impact.
We are a magazine built on trust. Our readers trust us to bring them content that is honest, thoughtful, and deeply human. These guidelines protect that trust — for them, and for you as a writer.
We welcome all women, all backgrounds, all perspectives. What we ask for is authenticity, care, and a willingness to go beneath the surface.
Women Flourish publishes writers at every stage — from first-time essayists to established authors. What matters is not your following, your credentials, or your publication history. What matters is your truth.
Never been published before? We actively welcome first-time voices. Some of our most powerful pieces have come from writers sharing their story for the very first time.
We publish women from 60+ countries. We value diverse cultural perspectives and actively seek voices from regions underrepresented in mainstream publishing.
If you are an experienced writer, journalist, or author, we welcome your contributions. Please pitch us a piece that speaks specifically to our audience and mission.
Psychologists, therapists, counsellors, and researchers are encouraged to contribute pieces that bridge clinical knowledge with accessible, empowering storytelling.
We publish poetry, creative non-fiction, flash essays, and experimental forms. If your work challenges or expands what women’s writing can look like, we want to read it.
Women building organizations, leading communities, or driving social change — share your insights, your journey, and the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
First-person narratives rooted in lived experience. Raw, honest, and specific.
Evidence-informed pieces on psychology, healing, and emotional resilience.
Explorations of culture, heritage, identity, diaspora, and belonging.
Women breaking barriers in business, politics, science, and beyond.
Any form, any length. We love poetry that surprises, unsettles, and illuminates.
Stories of women creating change in their communities and beyond.
All personal essays must be factually accurate and based on real experience.
Pieces that primarily promote a product, service, or brand will not be accepted.
We accept original, unpublished work only. This includes personal blogs and social media posts.
Content that discriminates, demeans, or harms any group of people in any form.
All content must be authentically written by the submitting author. AI-assisted drafts will be declined.
Please do not submit the same piece to other publications while it is under review with us.
The best pieces in Women Flourish share a few qualities — not rules, but characteristics of writing that truly connects with readers.
The best essays are built on specific details, not generalities. Don’t tell us about “women in general” — tell us about you, about a specific moment, a specific place, a specific feeling.
We can always tell when a writer is holding back. The pieces that move people are the ones where the author takes a risk — saying the true thing, not just the safe thing.
The most personal stories are often the most universal. A piece about your experience in Nairobi or Mumbai or Lagos can resonate with a reader in London or New York or Tokyo — if it is honest enough.
Your first sentence should make the reader want to read the second. Start in the middle of something — a scene, a question, a contradiction. Don’t ease in slowly.
We are a mental health-forward publication. We welcome writing that explores pain, grief, fear, and struggle — alongside joy, resilience, and growth. Both are true. Both belong here.
We don’t need you to have all the answers. But we do need to understand what you think and feel. A meandering essay without a clear perspective is hard to follow. Ground us in yours.
You will receive an automatic confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting.
Our editorial team reads every submission personally. This takes 2–4 weeks for initial screening.
We will contact you with our decision within 4–8 weeks. Accepted pieces may go through light editing.
Accepted pieces are published on our website and may be featured in our print magazine issue.
We receive far more submissions than we can publish. Rejection does not mean your story is not worth telling — it often means the timing, fit, or angle wasn’t right for us at this moment. We encourage you to revise and resubmit, or submit a new piece. Many of our published writers were rejected on their first try.
We believe writers deserve clarity about their rights. Here is exactly what you agree to when you publish with Women Flourish.
Your work remains yours. We acquire first publication rights only. You may republish your piece elsewhere after 90 days, with a credit line noting it was first published in Women Flourish Magazine.
We may make light edits for grammar, clarity, and style. Any significant edits will be discussed with you before publication. We will never change your meaning without your consent.
We may share your published piece across our social media channels, newsletter, and in our print magazine. We will always credit you as the author.
What we offer instead:
